Presented in 2023 at Pipe Gallery in Seoul, South Korea, “am is are” is Dakyo Oh's solo exhibition, revealing a history of existence that surrounds the artist, a birth from the ground up, a glimpse into the origin of all that exists, and an entry into the inner contemplation of outer form.
The be-verbs listed in the exhibition title are often used to convey the concept of non-verbal existence, which the artist interprets broadly as “my existence is your existence” and “the existence of all things, including myself”.
This theme is then explored through the use of soil, the main medium of her work and a natural element enabling intimate contemplation beyond the visible, existing beneath all that constitutes our reality.
