In her exhibition at the Seojung Art Gallery in Busan, South Korea, Oh Dakyo presents Undine, a series of paintings inspired by water. The series of works expresses nostalgia for a complete homeland in the world of existence, and the desire to return home.
Having grown up by the sea, Oh Dakyo sees water as a captivating, spiritual force, representing the source of all life. It is with this vision that the exhibition highlights her artistic interpretation of this element.
The Undine series is a representation of the sea, of colorless sand, of the ebb and flow of the tides, of waves that ripple and break elegantly. The effect found on each canvas, reminiscent of wet sand, is achieved by smooth, round, crystal-like grains meticulously blended with a moist mixture of fine, soft earth powder and gelatin.
