The Vas Florum series is a collection of sculptural centerpieces that evoke the artist's subjective experiences while resonating with a more universal meaning. Conceived as a "time capsule", each sculpture reinvents the concept of the container and its relationship with flowers and their presentation.
The flowers are integrated into the body of the forms themselves, and the species chosen range from those that have been artificially bred for aesthetic purposes to common "weeds" that are often overlooked yet can thrive in the most inhospitable conditions.
The use of natural waste is at the heart of the artist's vision; by reclaiming plants that have served their commercial function and manipulating them through various processes, Rusak extends their life cycle and gives their ephemeral nature a new purpose by placing them within the confines of a work of art.
The sculpture pays homage to Rusak's maternal grandfather who, as well as being an accomplished economist and bridge player, was a self-taught botanist who concentrated on the most demanding species: orchids.
